As you walk through the church doors you will find exactly opposite you is the war memorial! This century old piece of bronze and wood displays a book with all the names of people from Hathersage and the surrounding valley, dating way back to the first world war!!!
How is it different from other churches?
You’re probably thinking right now, how is it different? It’s a war memorial. They’re all the same apart from the names. However, most war memorials are outside, this one is odd though because it is inside! That’s not as exciting as I thought it would be. You were meant to be impressed. But those crosses are actually grave markers from the first world war, it even tells you how they die!
Local descendants of heroes!!!
People in the local area have great great grandparents that fought in the first world war and are buried and remembered at this very church!!! They even have things like medals reminding them of how they validly fought in the first world war!!!
Remembrance
Of course, this memorial is not something you point and laugh at, this is remembering the many brave men that went, fought and died. These men should be remembered and remembered with pride.
